Download Joule Thief Made With A Ferrite Bead From An Old CFL Light Bulb Free

Judul	:	Joule Thief Made With A Ferrite Bead From An Old CFL Light Bulb
info	:	Here I make use of an old burnt out CFL light bulb for a Joule Thief light circuit. The ferrite bead/core from the CFL is at most 1/4 inch diameter and can fit in the core of my last circuit with a bit of room to spare. I used about 22 turns of fine (bi-filar=2 parallel wires) insulated wire. Comparing it to #30 gauge as shown in my last Joule Thief light circuit video, this wire seems about only half as wide (maby close to #40 gauge or so: seems slightly thicker than a human hair). If I used #30 gauge wire for this ferrite core then only 15 or so turns on it would be possible and may or may not have worked right.....it could of since the inductance would probalby be about the same as the recomended circuit. A Joule Thief circuit is basically like a "voltage step-up/increase" circuit. Voltage basically is the force that will be available to push the current around a circuit. 1.5V is not enough force or potential to push the current through a white LED light, so a Joule Thief increases that to about 3 to 6 V approximately, but can be more. I put a round ceramic magnet near the coil/transformer of the Joule Thief circuit, and the LED dimmed a bit. I guess the inductance of the coil went up leading to a higher reactance (ie. resistance) in the coil, which would diminish the available current. Some more notes for the value of R, the resistor in this circuit: 1K is the reccomended value (but could be a bit less). The circuit will work, produce some light, and diminishing/lessening brightness up to 300K ohms (300,000 ohms of resistance). For the apparant half-brightness use 50 to 100K, and for 1/3 or 1/4 apparant brightness use 100 to 200K. Expect better battery "life time"/lower current drain as you reduce the LED brightness level. You can use a "variable resistor", perhaps 100 or 200K ; just be sure to put the 1K resistor in series with this as a "safety resistor" incase the knob on the variable resistor is set to 0K for max. LED brightness for the given circuit. This 1K will prevent the transistor or other circuit elements/components from being damaged. So far, with the smaller ferrite/coil/transformer circuit element, than the last circuit, the results seem a bit better so far with this circuit, perhaps less drain on the battery. Probably a more efficient coil construction when the number of turns happens to take up all the available space. Advanced usage: There are some circuits here on YouTube, that basically replace the coil or LED with a stepup transformer (high voltage type I guess) that can light a CFL from a 1.5 volt battery. Someone is selling some nice projects/kits for Joule Thiefs. This is very nice since winding that small coil is not so easy, and even nerve wracking when you have to solder the wires to the rest of the circuit, so it's a good deal:: http://www.madscientisthut.com/Shopping/agora.cgi?product=Energy%20Harvesting&user4=Joule%20Thief%20Kits&xm=on You may even use wires to extend the LED off the circuit board if using this inside some box/holder. This kit above seems to be a very good project for anyone, especially since you don't need to know much about electronics other than hooking/soldering things up to work right, as in an electronic kit maker. You can often get an inexpensive soldering iron at some "dollar stores". This may truely be one of the most "neat and useful" circuits (besides a crystal radio circuit, and simple laser communicator circuit) available. Its good to have some things also like "aligator clip hookup test wire", and a Digtal Multimeter (DMM), for all kinds of circuit measurments and testing, which can be had for under $5 such as from Harbor Freight, etc. I've seen some nice once at Kmart/Sears that have some nice "extra functions" on them such as temperature and capacitance metering to name a few. Later you might even consider an oscilloscope to see the voltage "waveforms" and frequencies to test circuits. A nice Earth Battery / Joule Thief: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SO6HrZ-JF34 More data: Voltage source 2500mAh NiMh, 1.2V rechargeable battery: Stays at near about 1.2V area for about 3 days (36 hours.... seems to want to "maintain" this voltage), then drops quickly down to about 0.575V in a matter of 6 hours about, and stays in that voltage area for quite a while (just above 0.5V). At this voltage, the light from the LED has not much use, and it will eventually start pulsing (due to the battery and/or the LED?) at a fast rate, and then more slowly over several hours. This 0.55V is the battery voltage while under load/circuit working, and the battery voltage at that point is about 0.875V without the load/non-working circuit at that point. If this is ran off a 0.5 V solar cell, then the circuit would have to be designed to boost the voltage more....or hook up 2 or 3 small solarcells in series. In order to actually have that blog post make a difference in your search rankings, you should be discussing content that people want to know about your niche. Everytime Google sees you helping people with your blog posts and finding out more about what you do and how your specialty fits into search, you increase your opportunity of being seen as a go to source for that subject matter. If you tell people what they want to know, they will listen to what you think they need to hear. And that includes search engines. The bottom line is that you just want to tailor your blog posts to help people. The proper information and navigation of the content will help you with search because it will be noted that you are focusing on helping people, not gaming results for a keyword. MasterTxJ	:	@Pirate88179 Just rewatched some of your videos and saw that I had commented here. Thought I might give an update on the camp light I built after seeing this vid. I ended up using 2 D batteries in parallel and I can tell you, that lamp gave a steady light a several of hours every evening and night during that camping trip/vacation. All 3 weeks. I still use it sometimes and it's still the same batteries but you have to stroke your hand over the tube now to get it to light and it's a bit weaker.

There are at least 5 different ways to wire a Fuji circuit and you can pick the one that meets your needs. I posted references there to the large JT topic page and location for every schematic in that topic so you can read just the part that deals with that particular circuit. Bill

The carbon rod is a pure carbon rod used in the welding industry and the mag. block is normally used to protect buried propane gas tanks from rusting. They are as far apart as I can get them here in my little apartment garden area. The more distance, the better. Meridian north/south alignment (not magnetic) and the bottom angle needs to match the dip angle for your area. Bill

overunitydotcom	:	The only drawback is, that FL tubes emit these nasty mercury frequencies, which are not good for your eyesight, so better go with many LEDs put in series... This way you have still a small current and can light up many LEDs from the High Voltage. The new soft-warm-white 3000 Kelvin color temperature LEDs are very nice for your eyes.. ! Regards, Stefan.
overunitydotcom	:	Hi Bill, great idea with the tupperware case and the standing FL tube ! If you make several you can probably light up your whole room with it. If you use a feedback loop from the tube to the battery you can probably recharge the battery also, so it will last much longer and swap then after a few days the battery and recharge them completely with a solar panel. Project History & More Info: My good friend Ritchie Kinmont has a business, as well as a YouTube channel, called Sonic Dad (www.youtube.com/sonicdaddotcom) and has some really great projects. We've collaborated in the past, on the Micro X-bow video (http://bit.ly/MicroXBow), and when it came time for me to design a rocket for my sugar motors, I went back to Ritchie so we could put our heads together and see what we could come up with. Not only did we create a really awesome rocket, he called the "Randomizer", but Ritchie used one of the parachutes he made in a previous project (http://bit.ly/IBSonicParachute), as the parachute for the rocket, and it was perfect! I made a few small modifications to the parachute design, and developed it into a project video for the rocket building series, with approval from Ritchie, but rather than having these parachutes serve only one purpose, I wanted to develop other options, for anyone who may not get around to building a rocket but still wanted to do an ariel project. I combined the "Ninja Balls" from a previous project (http://bit.ly/SquishyNinjaBalls), and the parachutes from a future project, to make "Sky Balls". I call them "Sky Balls" because you throw them high into the air like a baseball, but then a little parachute opens up, bringing them safely down to the ground. You can throw them by hand, but my favorite method is getting them air-born with a water balloon slingshot. The water balloon slingshot you see in the video was actually the inspiration for my recent project, the "SkyBlaster Slingshot" (http://bit.ly/SkyblasterSlingshot). Unfortunately I filmed this project months before I even prototyped the sling-bow. The person that owned the slingshot moved out of town, and I couldn't find another one like it anywhere. Hence my motivation for making the slingshot project :) So now if you make a parachute, you'll be able to use it with Rockets, Sky Balls, or even action figure toys as well. And if you make Sky Balls, why not build yourself a SkyBlaster Slingshot to launch it with?. Every time we go to the park for family time, I bring my sling-bow and a couple of Sky Balls, and shoot them into the sky for my boys to chase down, and retrieve.
